  • Keep the latex off your hair and clothes, as Graftobian directs
  • Allow time: about 1 to 1.5 hours

Why it gives you a real wrinkled face

Latex wrinkles, not painted ones

Graftobian's method is 'stipple and stretch': lay tissue into wet liquid latex, stretch the skin while it dries, then let go to reveal real wrinkles. The clear liquid latex in the kit is what makes it work.

Colors for depth

Ghost Grey for the base, Thunder Grey for the hollows, Bleached Bone for the raised areas and Black to deepen wrinkles. That shadow-and-highlight layering is what makes the face look dried out.

A ghoul from the same box

Graftobian's instructions include a ghoul variation: latex for blistered skin, the same colors, black under the lesions and brown tooth wax pressed onto dried teeth.

Instructions included

Full-color instructions come in the box, and Graftobian publishes the full step-by-step guide.

A closer look

How to use it

  1. Wash the face and hands. Apply an aloe-based cream before the latex, and paste the brows down with modeling wax or petroleum jelly. Keep latex off your hair and clothes.
  2. Dab a dime-sized amount of latex onto a sponge wedge, lay single-ply tissue over the wet latex, tear off the excess and add another layer of latex.
  3. While it dries (2 to 3 minutes), stretch the skin across the wrinkle lines, then release to reveal the wrinkles. Repeat on cheeks, nose, chin and forehead.
  4. Apply a thin, even coat of Ghost Grey on all exposed skin, Thunder Grey in the hollows, and Bleached Bone on the raised areas.
  5. Deepen wrinkles, under the eyes and inside the lips with Black, then blend.
  6. Set section by section with powder and the puff.
  7. For the ghoul: build blistered skin with one or two coats of latex, use the same colors, add black under the lesions, then dry your teeth with a tissue and press on the brown tooth wax.

From the maker

Don't use any kit component you're allergic to, including latex. If anything causes discomfort, stop using it.

Retailer Mostly Dead notes that liquid latex bonds to hair: keep it off hair you want to keep.

Questions buyers ask

Does it really make wrinkles?

Yes. Graftobian's latex-and-tissue method creates real texture: stretch the skin while the latex dries, then release.

Can I do a ghoul instead of a mummy?

Yes. Graftobian's instructions include a ghoul variation with blistered latex skin and tooth wax.

Is it OK with a latex allergy?

No. The kit includes liquid latex.

How do I take it off?

The latex peels off fairly easily, per Graftobian. Remove the makeup with remover or cold cream, then wash with soap and water.

What else do I need?

Single-ply tissue, an aloe-based cream, modeling wax or petroleum jelly for the brows, and makeup remover.

The bottom line

For a mummy or ghoul with real wrinkled texture, Graftobian's kit gives you the liquid latex, the grey-and-bone colors and the tooth wax, with a guide for both looks. Skip it if you're allergic to latex.
